People are outraged and sad, as they should be, and we have seen many white people say they want to help but don’t know how. Read on for ways you can take action.
Our Community Birth Center is committed to a forever-long journey of diversity, equity and inclusion work. It started when we were founded last fall and it won’t stop ever because #BlackLivesMatter and #BlackMamasMatter and we need #RacialJustice! Black people are killed by police at twice the rate of the general population and black women die around the time of childbirth at four times the rate of white women.
TAKE ACTION:
1) Acknowledge your #WhitePrivilege. The “Me And White Supremacy” Workbook is one potential starting point: www.meandwhitesupremacybook.com
2) Support and donate to local organizations doing racial justice and social justice work such as

NAACP Eugene Springfield Oregon Unit 1119, Centro Latino Americano, Community Alliance of Lane County (CALC) and others.
3) It’s easy to freeze up when there is a long list of ways to help for an issue that no one person can solve alone. Check out this list and take it one action at a time: https://medium.com/equality-includes-you/what-white-people-can-do-for-racial-justice-f2d18b0e0234
5) This Sunday at 1 PM there will be a Black Lives Matter Protest in Eugene. If you participate, wear a mask and maintain 6 ft distance between people. If you don’t feel comfortable gathering due to coronavirus, you can make a sign to hold out the window and drive by the route, or make a sign and march around your neighborhood in protest:
