Author Alice Walker once said, “how we come into this world, how we are ushered in, met, hopefully embraced upon our arrival, impacts the whole of our time on this Earth.” We find this to be true at the birth center and it inspires the care we provide every day.

After a high-risk pregnancy, hospital birth, and challenging breastfeeding journey with her first child, Jessa knew she wanted a birth center experience for her second child. She was looking for a calm and relaxed environment with minimal medical interventions. When Jessa toured Our Community Birth Center, she knew she had found her place.

With Yarrow’s birth, Jessa says she felt much more present, and in-the-moment. “I was also given more privacy to bond with my baby, and I was much more comfortable. I think this birth experience really contributed to how Yarrow is doing overall. He is such a chill baby,” says Jessa. The care Jessa received also supported her breastfeeding journey with Yarrow, who is exclusively breastfeeding.

In addition to a positive birth experience, Jessa appreciated receiving supportive and informed care from the birth center team. “With AlexAnn and Zoe, they gave me all the options and let me decide from there,” says Jessa. “I really enjoyed all the care I received, from prenatal to birth to postnatal. I felt that I was heard.”

“I would recommend Our Community Birth Center 110%. It’s a more relaxed environment; the midwives are great at listening; and you get to work with midwives who really get to know you. Giving birth here really made me feel more empowered as a mother.”
