The childbirth preparation plus course at Our Community Birth Center offers a wonderful opportunity for pregnant people and their support person(s) to gain more knowledge and confidence about the birth process and more! We recognize that the journey from pregnancy through parenthood and beyond is so much more than just labor and birth. This is why we have developed a comprehensive course to accompany you on this exciting journey!
Our course includes preparation for childbirth, lactation/baby feeding, newborn care, and parenting. Specific topics include the following:
- Tools and techniques for a healthy and empowering birth experience that can be used in any birthing location (birth center, home, or hospital).
- Hands-on practice in the Birth Center’s birthing rooms.
- Opportunities to connect and develop friendships with other expectant parents.
- Preparation for the joys and challenges of lactation, breast/chestfeeding, and baby feeding in general.
- Basics of newborn care as well as Q&A for newborn topics that are important to you.
- Introduction to parenting, reflection on how you were parented and visioning how you want to parent, keys to success for the infant period and beyond, and connection to other local parenting resources and support offerings through Our Community Birth Center and Parenting Now.
- And more! Each course covers these topics and includes opportunities to ask your own questions and to discuss other topics with the course facilitators and parents in the course.
These course dates are recommended for pregnant people with due dates between December 1, 2021 through February 28, 2022. We will launch a new course every 1-2 months so there will be plenty of opportunities for people due in March and beyond.
In-Person Course Schedule:
Thursdays starting October 14th from 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm in person (2 hours each session). Seven weekly sessions on 10/14, 10/21, 10/28, 11/4, 11/11, 11/18, 12/2.
Location: We will be hosting the class in a spacious room at Parenting Now in Eugene: 86 Centennial Loop, Eugene, OR 97401. We will follow COVID precautions such as wearing masks and keeping spacing between people from different households.
Zoom Course Schedule:
Fridays starting October 15th from 12:00 pm – 1:30 pm on zoom (1.5 hours each session). Seven weekly sessions on 10/15, 10/22, 10/29, 11/5, 11/12, 11/19, 12/3.
Registration is available on a self-selected sliding scale. Funds raised from this course will help support Our Community Birth Center as we launch services. If you are able, please pay the full price for the course: $175. If you are not able to pay the full price, we would still love to have you participate in this important course. Please select the amount you are able to pay. We are also able to offer this course for free if you are not able to pay. This course is organized by Our Community Birth Center and taught collaboratively by a nurse midwife, lactation consultant, parenting educator, and other guest experts. We recommend that you sign up for a course in which you will finish all of the class sessions by one month before your estimated due date. At the end of the course, all participants are given a warm invitation to continue learning and getting support at our weekly drop-in Baby Clinic and through parenting education sessions from our local nonprofit partner, Parenting Now.
