Oregon Health Authority Approval
Today we received approval from Oregon Health Authority for our remodel plans! Remodeling is on track to start this summer. We have raised a little over $260,000 toward our Startup Campaign goal of $300,000! Donate at ourcommunitybirthcenter.org to help get the doors open and launch midwifery birth center services.
Birth Center Pre-Remodel Video Tour
Thank you for helping Build Up The Birth Center! We are excited to get to share this pre-remodel video tour of Our Community Birth Center's new birth center building located adjacent to Island Park in Springfield, Oregon at 188 West B Street, Building O. Renovations start in June 2021 with a goal of opening for services by the end of 2021. We will keep you posted as the timeline gets more solidified. Birth Center Interior Design Progress
Today we were choosing paint colors, flooring, and counter tops for the birth center. It's all coming together and it's going to be beautiful! Thank you to our architect Kira Malone at 2fORM Architecture for helping guide us and for providing gorgeous options.
Social Justice Committee
We have a Social Justice Committee made up of board members, staff, and volunteers (doing mostly behind the scenes work) helping to ensure equity and inclusion are sown into the roots Our Community Birth Center. The Social Justice Committee is launching a series of kid book suggestions. In particular, we'll highlight books centering People of Color, inclusion, and gender diversity. Books are a wonderful way to inspire important conversations with your kid(s) about loving themselves and others in all of our uniqueness. Build Up The Birth Center Event Thank You
Thank you to everyone who joined us for Build Up The Birth Center including the live zoom event and video tour, fun at home party packs, and the online auction! The event last week was a lot of fun and has given Our Community Birth Center a big boost toward our Startup and Remodeling fund goal. It’s official, Our Community Birth Center has a new home!
It's official, Our Community Birth Center has a new home! Our Community Birth Center has officially signed on to lease a building for the new birth center. Design and remodeling will start soon to convert this lovely home-like space adjacent to Island Park in Springfield into a birth center and clinic to serve our community. We cannot wait to welcome parents and babies into our new center where they will receive client-centered care and wrap around support through their journey to parenthood and beyond. KLCC News Story: Lane Co. Prenatal Clinic Closes As Birth Center Pushes To Open
Lane County recently closed its CHC Prenatal Clinic which was the only FQHC prenatal care option locally. We are sad to see more gaps opening up in our local perinatal health care system. Story by KLCC on 2/26/2021: "Pregnant people often chose Lane County’s federally qualified Prenatal Clinic because of its wrap around services, easy access to care, and integrated Spanish speaking staff. With this crucial service gone, Our Community Birth Center is preparing to step in. AlexAnn Westlake is Executive Director of the non-profit and a certified nurse midwife. She said they’ve held focus groups with Latina community members.

Join Our Community Birth Center's 2021 Team for the Eugene Marathon, Half Marathon, or 5K (in-person or virtual)! You'll get to participate in the race and fundraise for a great cause. Parent-Child Massage Benefit Class
Join us for a Parent-Child Massage Class taught by Lillian Shoupe and benefiting Our Community Birth Center. The class will take place over live interactive video sessions on February 14, 21 and 28 from 11 am - 12 pm PST. Registration fee is set on a sliding scale and 100% of fees go to Our Community Birth Center to help open the new birth center.
